  2.                        x-MENU User Menu System for VINES

  4.     x-MENU is a network software product from Extensions Software that
  5.     provides a low-cost, simple to use, workgroup menuing system for
  6.     Banyan VINES users.
  7.  
  8.     x-MENU provides basic menuing functions, including:

  10.       o Banyan commands sub-menu
  11.       o Applications sub-menu
  12.       o One keystroke functionality
  13.       o Simple to use
  14.       o Shells out to run Banyan Commands and Applications
  15.       o User configurable color
  16.       o User configurable swap drive (for RAM disk)
  17.       o Completely integrated with Banyan VINES

  20.     Requirements

  22.     x-MENU is designed for use on Banyan VINES network operating
  23.     systems, version 3.10 or higher. Workstations require a minimum of
  24.     128K free RAM and MS/PC DOS 3.10 or higher to load x-MENU.

  26.     Installation
  27.  
  28.     Complete installation can be performed in a matter of minutes. Once
  29.     the single x-MENU executable program has been copied to a workgroup
  30.     file service, x-MENU will then self-install its own configuration
  31.     and batch files when run for the first time. Custom configuration
  32.     of x-MENU is performed by text editing the configuration and/or
  33.     batch files.

  35.     x-MENU automatically detects Banyan VINES network operating systems,
  36.     thus totally automating user-access to x-MENU by obtaining the user
  37.     ID directly from StreetTalk. NetBIOS is not required.

  39.     The drive and path for x-MENU configuration and batch files may be
  40.     passed to x-MENU from the DOS command line, ie,
  41.  
  42.                                 XM S:\MENU\DATA

  44.     ... where S:\MENU\DATA is where the x-MENU configuration and batch
  45.         files reside.

  47.     Users need only have READ-ONLY access to the x-MENU subdirectory
  48.     where the configuration and batch files reside.

  50.     DOS SET commands can be used to force certain operating parameters
  51.     per user. These options include:
  52.  
  53.                  SET XMCOLOR=ON   -> to force x-MENU color on
  54.                  SET XMSWAP=H     -> to force x-MENU memory
  55.                                      swapping to the named drive
  56.                                      (in this case, drive H)
  57.  
  58.     Approximately 80K is swapped out in order to run Banyan commands or 
  59.     applications, leaving approximately 10K resident.

  64.     the latest x-MENU software, desk-top-published laser-printed user
  65.     guide, and 30-days limited technical support.
