x-MENU User Menu System for VINES
x-MENU is a network software product from Extensions Software that
provides a low-cost, simple to use, workgroup menuing system for
Banyan VINES users.
x-MENU provides basic menuing functions, including:
o Banyan commands sub-menu
o Applications sub-menu
o One keystroke functionality
o Simple to use
o Shells out to run Banyan Commands and Applications
o User configurable color
o User configurable swap drive (for RAM disk)
o Completely integrated with Banyan VINES
o Online help system
Requirements
x-MENU is designed for use on Banyan VINES network operating
systems, version 3.10 or higher. Workstations require a minimum of
128K free RAM and MS/PC DOS 3.10 or higher to load x-MENU.
Installation
Complete installation can be performed in a matter of minutes. Once
the single x-MENU executable program has been copied to a workgroup
file service, x-MENU will then self-install its own configuration
and batch files when run for the first time. Custom configuration
of x-MENU is performed by text editing the configuration and/or
batch files.
x-MENU automatically detects Banyan VINES network operating systems,
thus totally automating user-access to x-MENU by obtaining the user
ID directly from StreetTalk. NetBIOS is not required.
The drive and path for x-MENU configuration and batch files may be
passed to x-MENU from the DOS command line, ie,
XM S:\MENU\DATA
... where S:\MENU\DATA is where the x-MENU configuration and batch
files reside.
Users need only have READ-ONLY access to the x-MENU subdirectory
where the configuration and batch files reside.
DOS SET commands can be used to force certain operating parameters
per user. These options include:
SET XMCOLOR=ON -> to force x-MENU color on
SET XMSWAP=H -> to force x-MENU memory
swapping to the named drive
(in this case, drive H)
Approximately 80K is swapped out in order to run Banyan commands or
applications, leaving approximately 10K resident.
Pricing/Availability
x-MENU costs $145.00 per file service installation which includes
the latest x-MENU software, desk-top-published laser-printed user
guide, and 30-days limited technical support.
